Just Laughs, Just Smiles, Just Kids!
Dr. Janice Hwang
As a native to the Bay Area, I spent my early childhood and teenage years as a cellist, competing in competitions all over the Bay Area. While I loved my experience as a classical musician, I eventually decided to use the dexterity that I developed for another artform — dentistry.
After receiving my Bachelor of Arts degree in Neuroscience and Behavior from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY, I began my dental education at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). While at UCSF, I served in numerous dental organizations and outreach programs. I also received several awards for my research in Craniofacial Development and was also awarded the Charles Craig Memorial Scholarship award in recognition of outstanding scholarship and ethical character by the local dental honor society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon.
After receiving my Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from UCSF, I worked as a general dentist in the Santa Clara county while completing a three-month preceptorship in orthodontics at UCSF. I returned to UCSF during the following year to complete my three-year specialty training in orthodontics. I received extensive training in braces, Invisalign, removable appliances, surgery, and obstructive sleep apnea.
I am very passionate about serving my community. During my time as a dental student, I traveled to Honduras for three consecutive years to lead dental students and dentists to provide dental treatment to over 400 residents. My ultimate goal is to inspire others to realize their potential to serve people in any circumstance.
During my free time, I love spending time with my husband, family, and dog. I am an avid fan of boba and love to learn how to make different kinds of foods and desserts. I also enjoy hiking, traveling, and sharing my experiences through photography.
